About

Ana Tijoux (born 1977 in Lille, France) is a French-Chilean rapper, singer, and songwriter whose parents fled Chile after the 1973 Pinochet coup. She first gained recognition as the MC of hip-hop group Makiza in the late 1990s, then built a solo career on politically charged rap that weaves together hip-hop, jazz, and Latin American folk. Her 2009 album 1977 brought her international acclaim, and she has since won a Latin Grammy and received three Grammy nominations.
