Japanese rock trio Electric Eel Shock takes the stage at Monument in Göteborg. The band has been touring globally since the 1990s and is a regular fixture at Europe's major rock festivals.
Electric Eel Shock (EES) is a Japanese garage rock trio formed in Tokyo in 1994, consisting of Aki Morimoto (guitar/vocals), Kazuto Maekawa (bass) and Tomoharu 'Gian' Ito (drums). The band left Japan in 1999 for their first US tour and have since played in over 40 countries, sharing stages with acts like Motörhead, Sepultura and The Bloodhound Gang - and early in their career they had Arctic Monkeys as a support act. They are best known for their relentless touring and chaotic live shows, where drummer Gian performs with four drumsticks.
Electric Eel Shock launched their Heavy Metal Black Belt UK & EU Tour 2025 in May, covering the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France and Spain.
The band released their ninth studio album Heavy Metal Black Belt on 21 March 2024 on their own Double Peace Records label.
Electric Eel Shock completed their 30th Anniversary Europe Tour 2024, their first European run since 2019.
An interview published in April 2024 confirmed the band toured Europe for their 30th anniversary with bassist Joji Iwamoto filling in for Kazuto Maekawa on some dates.
