Jacob Karlzon presents his Questar project with a Danish trumpeter, bassist and drummer. The music balances between composition and improvisation, acoustic and electronic elements.
Jacob Karlzon (born 1970 in Jönköping) is a Swedish pianist, composer and bandleader based in Malmö, widely regarded as one of the leading figures in modern Scandinavian jazz. Classically trained but restlessly genre-crossing, he blends jazz with elements of folk, metal and electronics - a style he calls 'technorganic' - and has released over fourteen albums on labels including Warner Music and ACT. He is a Steinway Artist since 2012 and won the Swedish Django d'Or as Jazz Musician of the Year in 2010, while his long creative partnership with vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy has produced six acclaimed duo recordings.
Karlzon and vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy released their duo album 'Who We Are' on ACT Music on January 30, 2026, featuring eight original Karlzon compositions alongside covers of Billy Joel, Tori Amos and Thom Yorke.
Karlzon launched a new quartet project called Questar - with trumpeter Mads La Cour, bassist Thobias Gabrielson and drummer Robert Ikiz - and announced a European tour for 2026.
The Questar band is scheduled for shows in Germany, Belgium and Romania, among other European dates.
Karlzon released the solo piano album 'Winter Stories' on Warner Music, a seasonal record recorded on a Steinway D Grand at Studio Nilento and mixed in Dolby Atmos.
