Brahms' monumental piano concerto performed by piano virtuoso Nelson Goerner under conductor Martyn Brabbins.
Nelson Goerner (born 9 May 1969 in San Pedro, Argentina) is a classical pianist widely regarded as one of the leading figures of his generation. He won the Franz Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires in 1986 - a prize that brought him a scholarship to study with Maria Tipo at the Geneva Conservatoire, where Martha Argerich had championed his talent - and then took first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1990, launching his international career. He records primarily for Alpha Classics and has performed with orchestras from the London Philharmonic and Orchestre de Paris to the Royal Concertgebouw and NHK Symphony, working with conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi and Philippe Herreweghe.
In the 2025/26 season Goerner performs at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Wigmore Hall, Festival Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse, The Phillips Collection in Washington DC, and joins Martha Argerich on a duo tour through Spain and Paris.
Goerner gave a recital at Music Worcester (Curtis Hall, Assumption University) on 5 March 2026, presenting works by Chopin, Liszt, Schumann and Albéniz.
Goerner performed a solo recital at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on 5 May 2026, with a programme of Bach, Schubert, Ravel and Albéniz - the event sold out.
Goerner released his twelfth Alpha Classics album in April 2024, a Liszt recital centred on the Sonata in B minor, which received France Musique's choice award.
During the 2024/25 season Goerner performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and toured Spain with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
