Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1

Johannes Brahms held great respect for his predecessors, not least Beethoven, and it took many years - and many crumpled manuscript pages - before he dared call himself a symphonist. On the path toward his symphonies, he wrote Piano Concerto No. 1, a work he himself described as "a little piano concerto with a simple scherzo" but which is in fact a monumental work of symphonic character.
