Nils Landgren (born 15 February 1956 in Degerfors, Sweden) is a trombonist, singer and bandleader best known for his signature red trombone and his Funk Unit, which broke through internationally at the Jazz Baltica Festival in 1994. He has contributed to some 500 albums - from ABBA and Herbie Hancock to Wyclef Jean - and released over 40 albums as a leader on the ACT label, spanning funk, jazz, Swedish folk and orchestral ballads. Beyond performing, he has served as artistic director of Jazzfest Berlin, Jazz Baltica and Bohuslän Big Band, and since 2023 curates Jazzradion on Swedish public radio P2.
Landgren released the orchestral album 'Love of My Life' with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, arranged by Vince Mendoza, to mark his 70th birthday on 15 February 2026.
Landgren was awarded the Verdienstorden des Landes Schleswig-Holstein by Minister-President Daniel Günther in Kiel.
Christmas with My Friends IX was released on 31 October 2025, recorded at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm with the trombone section of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Landgren performed at the International Jazz Day All-Star Global Concert in Abu Dhabi alongside Herbie Hancock.
The live album 'Sandström: Sonnets of Darkness and Love' was released, recorded at Berwaldhallen in Stockholm in March 2024 with the Swedish Radio Choir.
