Norrköpings Symfoniorkester (SON) is a Swedish professional symphony orchestra founded in 1912, now comprising around 85 musicians. Based at the Louis De Geer Concert Hall in Norrköping's historic industrial landscape, the orchestra has launched the careers of conductors including Herbert Blomstedt and Franz Welser-Möst, and has built an international reputation through tours to Japan, China and major European venues, as well as an extensive recording catalogue on labels such as BIS.
Herbert Blomstedt was named Norrköpings Symfoniorkester's first-ever honorary conductor, an honour presented by artistic director Sofia Winiarski at a concert in De Geerhallen in March 2026.
The orchestra performed at the Berlin Philharmonie as part of Musikfest Berlin in September 2025, with SVT Nyheter reporting the appearance as a success.
The 2025-2026 season programme was announced, including a world premiere of the rediscovered Marc Blitzstein opera Parabola and Circula and guest appearances by Anne Sofie von Otter and Leif Ove Andsnes.
Sofia Winiarski took up the post of artistic director of Norrköpings Symfoniorkester in January 2025.
