Rainer Honeck leads a musical journey through Mozart's life, from child prodigy to mature master, featuring symphonies and a violin concerto.
Rainer Honeck (born 1961 in Nenzing, Austria) has been concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic since 1992, having joined the orchestra as a first violinist in 1981. Alongside his orchestral duties he performs as a soloist at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Suntory Hall, and conducts ensembles including the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. He plays a 1725 Stradivarius violin known as the 'Chaconne', on loan from the Austrian National Bank.
The Malmö Symphony Orchestra appointed Rainer Honeck as its Honorary Guest Conductor, recognising a musical partnership spanning more than two decades.
Honeck appeared as conductor and violin soloist with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra in Kaohsiung and Taichung, performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3.
Malmö Symphony's first concertmaster Marika Fältskog described Honeck's visits as 'a greatly anticipated occasion' that brings 'a profound musical tradition' to the orchestra.
