Tricky (born Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws, 27 January 1968, Bristol) is an English musician, rapper and producer who came up through the Wild Bunch sound system before co-founding Massive Attack. His 1995 solo debut Maxinquaye - a UK #3 hit widely named album of the year by NME, Melody Maker and The Wire - established him as one of the defining voices of trip hop, a genre he has spent three decades pushing into darker, more restless territory.
