Native American Fashion

Native American Fashion - From Roots to Runway explores four themes through craft, traditions, symbols, materials, techniques, and identities of Indigenous peoples in North America. The exhibition moves from early European contact with Indigenous design and fashion to resistance, activism, and the reclamation of traditions - and forward to a future rooted in the past.

For many of the participating designers, a central driving force is to demonstrate that Indigenous peoples still exist, despite colonization, oppression, and predictions that their cultures would disappear. Voices and perspectives from both Canada and the United States are highlighted.

The exhibition opens with a celebration on April 11, 2025, and runs through November 2, 2026.
