GKSS Match Cup Sweden 2026
GKSS Match Cup Sweden brings together the world's best match racing sailors to Marstrand. The competition is part of the World Matchracing Tour, where winners are crowned world champions. The starting field will hopefully feature Swedish names such as Johnnie Berntsson, Anna Östling, Martina Carlsson and Björn Hansen.
Match racing is a pure duel between two boats - the only thing that matters is being first across the finish line, whether the margin is a hundred metres or a centimetre. Quick decisions and precise manoeuvres are crucial, and races are judged directly on the water, making the sport easy to follow even without sailing knowledge.
The course is a two-lap circuit of the beat-and-run type and takes approximately 15 minutes to sail. Starts happen in pairs at 5-minute intervals, and the six racing boats have different colours to help spectators follow the action. Commentators guide the audience and blend expert knowledge with easy-to-understand information.
Watching the competition is free. The GKSS Match Cup Sweden website has information on how to get to Marstrand and where you can follow the race.
