Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby at Nordiska Akvarellmuseet
Nordiska Akvarellmuseet, Gothenburg
Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby are among the most significant Danish artists of the post-war period. The exhibition at Nordiska Akvarellmuseet focuses on watercolour and drawing - media where process, movement and thought emerge as an independent field of inquiry, and where the image's energy, structure and rhythm could be tested and deepened.
The selection spans from Jorn's experimental and spontaneous visual language in the 1940s to Kirkeby's works from the 1980s and 1990s. Despite belonging to different generations, their works are united by a shared interest in painting's pursuit of its inner magic - and in how intellectual sharpness and emotional intensity can work together in image-making.
The exhibition runs from 10 May to 6 September 2026 and was created in collaboration with art historian Per Jonas Storsve. A selection from the museum's collection is also on display.
