VÄGUS: Enigmavariationerna
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
This evening's programme showcases music from Britain - with Elgar's Enigma Variations at its heart, a work named among the finest classical pieces ever created in the country.
Alongside Elgar, the concert features music by two British pioneers: Doreen Carwithen, a prominent composer of the 1940s and 1950s known for her film scores, and Ethel Smyth, a civil rights campaigner in the movement's early years who composed protest songs for women's suffrage.
VÄGUS is a youth orchestra project that continuously welcomes new musicians. When positions open, auditions are held - you should be between 14 and 23 years old and have reached a good level in your musical development. The programme includes rehearsals, weekend camps, and regional tours. Attending a concert before auditioning is recommended.
