VÄGUS: Mahler Symphony No. 1
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Mahler's first symphony bears the name Titan - but it is far more than grand. Simple melodies and sorrowful harmonies sit side by side, with themes drawn from Jewish folk song. The finale is described as the despair of a wounded heart.
VÄGUS performs the work with courage and passion, as they typically do with classics of this kind.
The orchestra also continuously welcomes new musicians: as existing members move on, places open for young talents who wish to experience VÄGUS life through rehearsals, weekend retreats, and regional tours. You should be between 14 and 23 years old and have made good progress in your musical development. Auditions are held every year, and before you apply, you are encouraged to attend one of the concerts.
