Beethoven's Violin Concerto — Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg

Beethoven's only violin concerto gained its reputation only after his death and is today one of the most performed works in the genre. The soloist and orchestra weave together in a lively dialogue, and Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai takes on the virtuosic challenge.

As an introduction, Unsuk Chin's Subito con forza is performed - a powerful piece with roots firmly in Beethoven.

The second part of the concert is devoted to Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, originally a piano work that Maurice Ravel later orchestrated. Through ten movements we descend into the Paris catacombs, visit Baba Yaga's hut, and arrive at a sketch of an enormous gate in Kiev that was never built.

The conductor is Kahchun Wong, born in Singapore and chief conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, who also works with leading ensembles in Europe and the USA.

One hour before the concert, an introduction is held in the Grand Hall - approximately 30 minutes of stories behind the works and reflections on the composers. The introduction is included in the ticket price and seating is unreserved.
