Piano Magic with Christian Zacharias
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Christian Zacharias performs a solo piano recital with a programme spanning three centuries - from Couperin's ornate Baroque pieces and Haydn's piano sonatas to Schubert's Moments musicaux and Francis Poulenc's piano music.
Zacharias is particularly associated with Haydn, where his interpretations highlight humour, elegance, and structural clarity. Schubert's Moments musicaux represent a more introspective Romanticism, while Domenico Scarlatti's sonata in C minor offers sharp contrasts and rhythmic vitality. The French thread runs most clearly through Couperin's Baroque pieces and Poulenc's often melancholic piano music - with Improvisation No. 15, a quiet tribute to Édith Piaf, standing as one of the programme's highlights.
An introduction is held in the Great Hall one hour before the concert, lasting approximately 30 minutes and included in the ticket price. Free seating applies during the introduction.
