Västerhavsveckan: Step Inside the Malmska Whale
Göteborgs Naturhistoriska Museum, Gothenburg
The Malmska whale beached in Askimsviken in 1865 and is the world's only mounted blue whale. Throughout Västerhavsveckan week, the whale's jaws are kept open so visitors can peek inside - and on Friday 7 August, you can also step into its interior. The whale is opened only on special occasions, such as Walpurgis Night, Västerhavsveckan week, and parliamentary elections.
Entry into the whale is included in the admission price. Children and young people under 20 enter free. No advance registration is required.
Note that queues can be long, and the queue partly goes via stairs. Visitors with wheelchairs or pushchairs can speak with the staff, who will show an alternative route. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Visitors with disabilities that make queuing difficult can, together with a companion, go ahead in the queue - speak with the staff and show proof, for example from rehabilitation services.
This programme is part of Västerhavsveckan 2026.
