CANCER DANCE
Moderna Dansteatern, Stockholm
Choreographer Nadja Hjorton has created a solo based on her own story. When she turned 40, she became a theatre director - and was diagnosed with breast cancer. CANCER DANCE begins with that time: the body changing, fear and loss of control, cells running wild. But also with everything that continued to exist - the children, friends, TikTok dances in the living room, and unexpected moments of joy in the midst of chaos.
The performance is neither a sentimental story nor a heroic saga, but the solo Nadja herself would have wanted to see when she was ill. With dark humour, physicality and warmth, it moves from the deeply intimate to the truly grand.
Music: Britta Persson. Costume and mask: Daniel Åkerström Steen. Scenography and light design: Chrisander Brun - created to portray the body's inner world in a playful and surrealist way. Dance dramaturg: Maryam Nikandish. Produced by Riksteatern. Performance length: 1 hour.
