Landowner Magni is to marry Teresia in Hultet - she has consented and engagement rings must be purchased at the market. But when the maid Lovisa, who promised to come along, learns of it all, a major reckoning unfolds on the evening before departure. Everything culminates in the most surprising turns of events.
