Landshövdingehus - A Gothenburg World Heritage
Göteborgs stadsmuseum, Gothenburg
Ingår i museets entrébiljett. Fri entré för alla under 20 år
The starting point is the book Landshövdingehusen - ett göteborgskt världsarv, published for the houses' 150th anniversary. Cultural commentator and author Olle Niklasson discusses the houses, their architects, and the evolution of architecture from 1880s neoclassicism to functionalism after 1930 - but goes beyond drawings and facades. He places the landshövdingehus within a broader political, social, cultural, and economic context, where this building type emerges as an expression of its time and its city.
Niklasson also argues that the landshövdingehus would be well-suited for inclusion on UNESCO's World Heritage List and could become Sweden's sixteenth world heritage site.
Olle Niklasson has written about architecture in both daily and specialist press. He is known in particular for a series on Gothenburg's architecture that ran for four seasons in the weekend supplement Två Dagar of Göteborgs-Posten and later formed the basis for the book Fyrtiotvå hus och en bockkran i Göteborg.
The event is included in the museum's admission ticket. Seating is limited - book via the link and arrive at least 5 minutes before the start, otherwise your place may be released if there is a queue. Cancellations are made via bokningar.stadsmuseet@kultur.goteborg.se. If you need a sign language interpreter, contact stadsmuseum@kultur.goteborg.se at least 14 days in advance.
