A Small Novel
"I think increasingly about a story, so terrible that I don't know if it can be written" - Lars Norén
In 2026, Teater Trixter is developing a new production based on "A Small Novel", Lars Norén's final book. The text draws from a real court case that concluded in January 2021, when Lisa Montgomery was executed in a U.S. federal prison - the first woman in 67 years. Montgomery was unanimously sentenced to the law's harshest penalty for murder. The grotesque nature of the crime and questions about mitigating circumstances received attention far beyond the courtroom.
The production raises questions about guilt and responsibility: can we understand a person's actions in light of what she has previously endured? Is it possible to separate the sin from the sinner? Are there people entirely without mercy?
On stage: Kristin Falksten. Artistic team: Kristin Falksten, Svante Grogarn, Annie Thorold, and Åke Östergren.
Note: the production contains strong depictions of violence and abuse. Recommended from age 15.
