Israel Galván: La Edad de Oro — Scenen, Knivsta

Two decades after its premiere, Israel Galván returns with La Edad de Oro - a work that has become a cornerstone of his repertoire. The title refers to flamenco's golden age from the late 19th century to the 1930s, an era marked by simplicity and deep roots in tradition.

In this performance, Galván does not merely seek flamenco's origins - he lays them bare. Together with María Marín and Rafael Rodríguez, the decorative is stripped away in favour of the essential: body, voice, and strings in unfiltered expression. The performance is not nostalgic but a contemporary response to a lost form.

"For me, it's about surrendering to the silence, with the memory of the guitar and the singing. The dancer's body is a symphony of movements and a musical instrument. 'Edad de Oro' is my personal dance laboratory" - Israel Galván

Israel Galván was born in Seville in a family of flamenco dancers. He has received the Premio Nacional de Danza (Spain), Bessie Performance Award (New York), and National Dance Award for Exceptional Artistry (United Kingdom), and was named Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France in 2016. He appears in the Netflix series Move and is an associate artist at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. Watch a documentary about him on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/81013100
