If Music be the food of Love - William Shakespeare and Music!
Soprano Negar Zarassi and literature professor Axel Englund - the winning team from SVT's Kontrapunkt - meet in a portrait of Shakespeare in the world of music. The guitar duo The Gothenburg Combo accompanies.
Negar performs Shakespeare's texts in compositions by Purcell, Schubert, Rossini, Sibelius and Vaughan Williams, among others. The Gothenburg Combo accompanies, and Axel Englund comments and tells the story of Shakespeare's life and works.
Negar Zarassi has been engaged as a soloist by, among others, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, GWO and Malmö Opera. In autumn 2025 she was heard as the opera ghost in Swedish Radio's Christmas calendar "Spökjul på Dimmeborg". Axel Englund is a professor of literature at Stockholm University and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences; his research concerns the intersection of music and literature, and he also works as an opera critic for Expressen and as a lyric translator. The Gothenburg Combo (David Hansson and Thomas Hansy) has toured on every continent except Antarctica and collaborated with, among others, Terry Riley, Lina Nyberg, Pernilla August, Reine Brynolfsson and Lena Willemark.
Concerts at 15:30 and 18:30. Entrance via Gunnebo Castle's south entrance (under the stairs), 15 minutes before start. During the interval there is an opportunity to buy refreshments. Restaurant Kaffehus och Krog is open 11-16 with food service 11:30-14.
Accessibility: wheelchair users can enter directly onto the main floor. There is no lift - from the entrance level to the main floor there are 20 steps. Cloakroom and toilet are on the entrance level. Contact the organizers before your visit if you have special needs.
