Alan Gilbert is an American conductor born in 1967 in New York, with Swedish family roots. He served as music director of the New York Philharmonic from 2009 to 2017, then became chief conductor of the Royal Swedish Orchestra (Hovkapellet) in 2019. He is known for a wide repertoire ranging from the classical canon to contemporary works.
