About

Hellripper is a Scottish black/speed metal project run entirely by James McBain, born in Aberdeen in 1995 and now based in the Scottish Highlands. Since starting the band in 2014, McBain has written, recorded and mixed every album himself, drawing on Venom, Darkthrone, Motörhead and early thrash to forge a sound rooted in Scottish folklore, witchcraft and occult history. The fourth album, Coronach (Century Media Records, 2026), is his most ambitious work yet and has drawn wide critical acclaim.
