The Malmö Symphony Orchestra (MSO) was founded in 1925 and has been a purely symphonic ensemble since 1991. With 94 professional musicians drawn from around 17 countries, it performs at Malmö Live Concert Hall and records extensively for BIS and Naxos. Its recordings have won the Cannes Classical Awards, the Diapason d'Or, and Gramophone Editor's Choice recognition.
German conductor Christian Blex was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of MSO for the 2026/27-2028/29 seasons, following his win of the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award 2025.
MSO is set to perform at Malmöfestivalen in August 2026, sharing the stage with Swedish artist Jonathan Johansson in a free outdoor concert.
