Season Opening - Brabbins & Prokofiev

Chief conductor Martyn Brabbins opens the season with Richard Strauss' tone poem Don Juan - the work that became the 24-year-old composer's major breakthrough.

Following this, Verse of Light receives its world premiere, composed by MSO's Composer in Association Karen Tanaka for guest of honour Håkan Hardenberger, with the trumpet at the centre of a meeting between analogue and digital.

The evening concludes with Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony, composed during the Second World War as a tribute to the power of the human spirit.
