Beethoven & Shostakovich — Konsertsalen, Malmö

The evening features Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with 23-year-old Jeneba Kanneh-Mason as soloist, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 conducted by chief conductor Martyn Brabbins.

Jeneba Kanneh-Mason comes from a family of seven siblings, all musicians - several already well established in their careers. She is regarded as one of the finest pianists of her generation and brings both brilliant technique and great expressive power to Beethoven's temperamental concerto.

Martyn Brabbins studied in St. Petersburg for two years in his youth, which gave him deep knowledge of and love for Russian music. He was particularly drawn to the intensity and almost cinematic drama of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11, which depicts the people's struggle during the 1905 revolution.
