Pianist Francisca Skoogh and five wind players from MSO perform two sextets and a techno-inspired trio.

Ludwig Thuille has long been overshadowed by his older friend Richard Strauss, but his Sextet for piano and wind quintet is far from forgotten - this four-movement work is considered one of the finest examples of Romantic chamber music. Guillaume Connesson counts Wagner, Debussy, film composer John Williams, and soul legend James Brown among his inspirations. In Techno Parade for flute, clarinet, and piano (2010), he attempts to capture the raw energy of techno using acoustic instruments.

Francis Poulenc belonged to the French group Les Six, whose members were accustomed to participating in various events on weekends. This is evident in his Sextet - the work bears clear traces of circus music, jazz, and ragtime, and is considered alongside the opera The Carmelites as one of Poulenc's most beloved works.
