About

The Animals are an English rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, formed in 1962-63 when vocalist Eric Burdon joined the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo. Their 1964 recording of "House of the Rising Sun" hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic and is widely cited as the first folk rock hit by an electric band. Alongside Burdon's raw, blues-drenched voice, the band's run of 1960s singles - "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "It's My Life" - made them a central force in the British Invasion. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
