Legendary rock band The Animals takes the stage in Mariehamn.
The Animals are an English rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, formed in 1962-63 when vocalist Eric Burdon joined the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo. Their 1964 recording of "House of the Rising Sun" hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic and is widely cited as the first folk rock hit by an electric band. Alongside Burdon's raw, blues-drenched voice, the band's run of 1960s singles - "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "It's My Life" - made them a central force in the British Invasion. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Zoot Money, keyboardist who played with The Animals on their 1983 reunion album 'Ark', died on 8 September 2024 aged 82.
Barry Jenkins, drummer for The Animals during both of the band's 1960s incarnations, died on 27 January 2024 aged 79.
The Animals, led by original drummer John Steel, completed a farewell tour across Australia in February-March 2024, billed as their final visit to the country.
Eric Burdon, the band's longtime frontman, turned 84 in May 2025 and continues to perform as Eric Burdon and the Animals.
