The Baltic Sea Festival returns 21-29 August and fills Stockholm with music ranging from intimate to monumental. Berwaldhallen is the festival's hub, but concerts spread across several venues throughout the city.

The festival opens with Andrés Orozco-Estrada, newly appointed chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, leading the opening concert alongside soprano Malin Byström.

The 2026 programme features orchestra concerts, chamber music, choral works, jazz, contemporary premieres, a family day, and cross-border collaborations. Among the soloists are Yunchan Lim, Asya Fateyeva, Jakub Józef Orliński, Daniel Lozakovich, and Peter Mattei. The chamber ensemble Opus13 participates, as do composers Jacob Mühlrad and Molly Kien. International guests include the Czech Philharmonic and conductors such as Semyon Bychkov and festival co-founder Esa-Pekka Salonen.

The 2026 edition (24th year) was announced with a star-studded lineup, featuring Andrés Orozco-Estrada's debut as chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and multiple world/Swedish premieres.

The Czech Philharmonic, winner of Gramophone's Orchestra of the Year 2024, will perform two festival evenings under Semyon Bychkov with Janine Jansen and Yunchan Lim as soloists.

The closing concert will be conducted by festival co-founder Esa-Pekka Salonen, featuring a world premiere saxophone concerto by Erkki-Sven Tüür and Sibelius's Kullervo with Peter Mattei and Orphei Drängar.

The opening night on 21 August includes the world premiere of Molly Kien's A Demon in Disguise and the Swedish premiere of Anders Hillborg's Hell Mountain, both conducted by Orozco-Estrada.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada is a Colombian conductor with a long track record at major European and American orchestras, including the Houston Symphony and hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt. From 2026 he serves as chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire ranges widely across the classical and late-romantic canon.
