Hasselblad Concert: The Seasons in New Colours — Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Description was written before the event

This year's Hasselblad Concert opens with pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, who returns to Göteborg to perform Robert Schumann's piano concerto - his only one - a work that reflects Schumann's longing for his future wife.

Following this is Aziza Sadikova, an Uzbek composer based in Berlin, with her work Farbenzeiten - a paraphrase of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in which familiar harmonic passages take on new colours and vibrant melodies. A baroque spirit hovers over this rhythmic work. The soloists are a quartet from the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra, and the performance is conducted by Kent Nagano, former principal guest conductor of the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra, just as at the 2024 premiere.

Buchbinder is known from concert halls in South Africa, Finland, Japan and Mexico - and many places in between - and is particularly valued for his interpretations of Beethoven's piano music.

The concert is part of the celebration of the Hasselblad Prize - the world's largest photography award - which in 2026 is awarded to Zanele Muholi. The Hasselblad Foundation describes her as follows: "Zanele Muholi is one of the most influential photographers of our time, with an impact that extends far beyond the art world. Through her portraits, she makes visible and celebrates the experiences and dignity of the Black HBTQIA+ community - both in South Africa and throughout the rest of the world."
