Larry Grenadier is one of jazz's most acclaimed bassists - Bass Player magazine highlights his "fluid sense of melody". The two share a history as sidemen in bands led by Pat Metheny and John Scofield, among others, and have also collaborated with Maceo Parker.

Walter Smith III is a saxophonist and composer known from Roy Haynes' Fountain of Youth Band and the Terence Blanchard Quintet. Saxophonist Jimmy Heath has said of him: "Smith is a perfect example of what my mentor Dizzy Gillespie said: 'You must have one foot in the past and one foot in the future'."
