Season Opening with Pekka Kuusisto

The season opens with the world premiere of Anders Hillborg's new saxophone concerto, featuring award-winning saxophonist Theo Hillborg - the composer's son - as soloist. This is followed by the first part of the orchestral suite Soluppgång by Finland-Swedish composer Ida Moberg, music that Gothenburg Symphony has recorded on a Grammis-winning album. The evening concludes with Gustav Mahler's first symphony, known as Titan.

Guest conductor Pekka Kuusisto leads the concert. He works across boundaries with jazz, folk music, sound artists and jugglers, and is now in his second season collaborating with Gothenburg Symphony.

An hour before the concert, an introduction is held in the Great Hall - approximately 30 minutes with free seating - included in the ticket price. Background to the works, information about the composers and personal reflections are provided.
