Ein deutsches Requiem
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Soprano Christina Nilsson performs Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem alongside baritone Christoph Pohl, the Gothenburg Symphony Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Marie Jacquot.
Brahms worked on this piece for nearly ten years, completing it in 1868 - three years after his mother's death. It is not a traditional liturgical requiem mass, but a consoling work addressed to the living.
Christina Nilsson achieved breakthrough success as Aida at the Royal Opera in 2018 and has since performed at major opera houses worldwide. Last year she was appointed court singer. Marie Jacquot, who serves as chief conductor at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, is visiting Gothenburg for the second time this year.
One hour before the concert, a 30-minute introduction takes place in the Grand Hall with free seating - it is included in the ticket price and explores the stories behind the work and personal reflections.
