Don Quixote
Medborgarhuset Björken, Lycksele
Skottes Musikteater presents a farcical and musical version of Cervantes' classic, centring on the self-proclaimed knight Don Quixote and his reluctant squire Sancho Panza. Cervantes originally wrote the novel (1605-15) as a satirical response to the romanticized chivalric romances of his time - a work that mocks power structures, stupidity and lies, and which became one of the world's most-read books after the Bible.
The scenography is constructed as a theatre machine with rotating and pulling mechanisms, hatches and boxes that create an ever-shifting landscape of environments and moods. The music draws from Puccini's aria from Turandot, with new lyrics.
Behind the production stand actors, musicians and composers Ove Andersson and Mats Jadin. Script in a new translation by Hans Kellerman, who also adapted the text together with Andersson and Jadin. Direction: Hans Kellerman, Kalle Zerpe, Per Nilsson and Amanda Nilsson. Scenography, costumes and puppets: Hans Kellerman. Technical direction: Björn Arnell.
