Women and Apple Trees
Kramfors Teater på Kramfors Folkets Park, Kramfors
Sally and Ellen grow up in the poor quarters of Norrköping in the late 1800s. As adults, they meet again and find in each other a rare strength. Ellen is the quiet, enduring mother struggling in a destructive marriage. Sally is righteous and fearless - a woman who speaks loudly even when no one wants to listen. Around them, children move through a daily life marked by hardship, loss, and moments of belonging.
Moa Martinson's 1933 novel portrays women's living conditions with a gaze that still feels unusually direct, a language rooted in earth, work, and survival. It is a story about how women carried their lives and each other - about sisterhood as a counterforce and friendship as a necessity in a world where security was rarely to be found.
