Awakening

In 8 AD, the Roman poet Ovid published his masterwork Metamorphoses - 240 ancient myths in one. Over two thousand years later, three young British playwrights selected twenty of these stories and rewrote them in their own words with a contemporary perspective. With a new Swedish translation, BATALJ Scenkonst presented the Swedish premiere of their play: a cavalcade where chaos, love, violence and humour follow one another.

Orpheus, Medea, Jupiter and the rest of the gods and humans in these stories have survived millennia - they refuse to be forgotten. Now they enter our time with all their jealousies, sorrows, songs, bloody desires for revenge and need for recognition.

The Swedish premiere was performed at Fri Scen, Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm, 7-15 November 2025.
