the body symphonic - Charlie Khalil Prince — Norrlandsoperan, Umeå

the body symphonic is a solo performance in concert format where choreographer Charlie Khalil Prince and percussionist Joss Turnbull blur the boundary between dance and musical performance. Through movement, live music, recorded voices and field sounds, the stage becomes a space of resistance where the body emerges as a living archive - fragile, political and constantly becoming.

The work draws from overlapping crises in Lebanon: the 2019 revolution, the 2020 Beirut port explosion, economic collapse and the ongoing attack on southern Lebanon. From this foundation, the performance unfolds as an excavation of personal and collective memory. Drawing inspiration from contemporary and folk dance, Prince allows traditions to crack open and transform into new mythologies - a meditation on the body's place in the struggle against occupation, looking backward, inward and forward.
