Byström and Tchaikovsky

The concert opens with a short work by Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova - Orpheus' Comet - which evokes a sense of space and movement. This is followed by Halkyoniska dagar by Britta Byström, a work where the sounds are allowed to linger. The title refers to a period of calm and mild weather. The soloist is flautist Laura Michelin from Norrköping.

The second part of the concert is devoted to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. The music begins darkly and restrainedly but grows step by step toward a powerful and triumphant finale.
