Beethoven and Schumann — Norrlandsoperan, Umeå

The evening opens with Lisa Streich's work ALV, performed by the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra. Streich is from Värmland and her music is regularly performed by leading orchestras across Europe.

Next comes Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 - often called the Emperor Concerto - with British pianist Paul Lewis as soloist, renowned for his Beethoven interpretations. The concert is part of Beethoven Year 2027, marking 200 years since the composer's death.

The evening concludes with Schumann's Symphony No. 3, sometimes called the Rhine Symphony. It was written after Schumann moved to Düsseldorf and was inspired by the landscape around the Rhine river. The fourth movement is solemn and is said to evoke thoughts of grand cathedral spaces.

Introduction at 18:25 in the Publikfoajén. Ticket sales begin 11 August at 12:00 - the concert is also included in the season subscription, which can be booked now.
