Matarv: In the Kitchen of Crisis
Göteborgs stadsmuseum, Gothenburg
Ingår i museets entrébiljett. Fri entré för alla under 20 år
On food shortages, substitutes, and preparedness then and now.
In this lecture, we trace the history of crisis food - from today's prepper culture and panic buying during Covid-19 to past scarcities and resourcefulness. We look back at the great crises of the 20th century, when world wars and the Cold War shaped both emergency stockpiles and food cultures.
Maria Persson, archaeologist and cultural heritage researcher at the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Gothenburg, discusses how crisis food is not just about survival but also about cultural heritage, politics, and social spirit. The lecture is arranged in collaboration with the Department of Historical Studies and is part of the research network #matarv.
