Violet Green Tell it like it is

Violet Green has toured for over a decade with a show celebrating the great female icons of rock and blues. The motto of the classic blues divas was: Tell it like it is! - they broke taboos and protested with profanity and humor against injustice and oppression, inspiring musicians for over a hundred years.

The performance moves from a smoky piano bar in the American South and vaudeville tent shows through 1950s rhythm and blues to Janis Joplin and Mavis Staples. The connecting thread is a musical history featuring pioneers such as Memphis Minnie, Big Mama Thornton, Ethel Waters, Etta James, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Smith, Aretha Franklin and others.
