Destroy This Play

Sam begins to suspect that life is a script - that everyone around him is playing rehearsed roles while Sam alone has never received his copy. At home, at school, everywhere, people seem to follow rules that no one has ever spoken aloud. Then the Play itself takes the stage and confirms it: everything is predetermined, the roles, the lines, the costumes. But Sam is offered a choice - play along, or tear it all to pieces.

What begins as ordinary theatre soon shatters its own form. In a metatheatrical format that turns the adult world's rules and expectations upside down, the question emerges: what happens when you take control of your own story?

The play is written and directed by Emil Nilsson-Mäki, founder of Skuggteatern in Umeå. His previous productions - including Gargantua, I am not a girl, and Lyssnaren - have been shown at festivals such as Bibu and Scenkonstbiennalen. The performance runs 50 minutes and is a co-production with Örebro Teater.
