Destroy This Play

Sam begins to suspect that everyone around him is an actor and that life follows a script that was never handed out. At home, at school, everywhere - people seem to know the rules except Sam. Then the Play itself takes the floor and confirms it: the roles are assigned, the lines rehearsed, the costumes decided. But Sam is also given a choice - to play along or tear it all to pieces.

What starts as ordinary theatre soon breaks open into a metatheatrical format where form is as much at stake as content. The norms and expectations of the adult world are turned upside down in a question that drives the entire performance: what happens when you take control of your own story?

The play is written and directed by Emil Nilsson-Mäki, founder of Skuggteatern in Umeå. His previous works - including Gargantua, I am not a girl and Lyssnaren - have been shown at festivals such as Bibu and Scenkonstbiennalen. Scenography and costume design: Hanna Cecilia W Lindkvist. Sound design: Anna Haglund. Mask design: Matilda Bragner. Dramaturgy: Jani Lohikari. Cast: Josse Matsson, Magdi Saleh and Joséphine Wistedt.
