Women and Apple Trees — Folkets Hus, Teatern, Hofors

Moa Martinson's 1933 novel takes us to the poor quarters of Norrköping at the turn of the 20th century, where Sally and Ellen grow up side by side. As adults and separated, they find their way back to each other - and in that friendship they discover a strength that their surroundings never offered them. Ellen endures a destructive marriage, Sally speaks plainly when others stay silent. Around them, children move through a daily life of toil, loss, and moments of belonging.

The novel portrays women's living conditions in language rooted in earth and labour, and is read nearly a hundred years later with the same recognition. Now it is dramatized by Tora von Platen and directed by Julia Marko-Nord.
