Women and Apple Trees — Falkhallen, Blackboxen, Falkenberg

Moa Martinson's 1933 novel takes us to the poor quarters of Norrköping at the end of the 19th century, where Sally and Ellen grow up and later, as adults, find each other again. Ellen endures a destructive marriage; Sally speaks plainly even when no one wants to listen. Around them, children move through a daily life of hard work, loss, and moments of togetherness.

The novel portrays women's living conditions in language rooted in earth and labour - and that perspective has not aged. The story is about sisterhood as a counterforce and friendship as pure necessity in a world where security was rarely within reach.

Now it is dramatised by Tora von Platen and directed by Julia Marko-Nord. The cast includes Emilia Roosmann, Tuuli Heinonen, Maria Sundbom, Mårten Andersson and Emil Grudemo El Hayek. Set and costumes: Sven Haraldsson. Composition: Martin Hederos. Mask design: Angelica Ekeberg. Lighting design: Sofia Linde and Hannele Philipson. Dramaturg: Ninna Tersman.

Performance length: 2 hours including interval. A co-production with Västerbottensteatern.
