The string section of Uppsala Chamber Orchestra performs well-known works by Mozart, Grieg, Mendelssohn and Sibelius. The evening is led and soloed by Fredrik Paulsson, a violinist and violist who tours internationally. He has previously served as concertmaster of Gothenburg Symphony and Swedish Chamber Orchestra and is a member of Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
The programme features Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik (1787), Grieg's Holberg Suite (1884) - written to honour author Ludvig Holberg and based on 18th-century dance forms - Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 2, and Sibelius' Andante festivo, a work originally composed for string quartet that Sibelius arranged for string orchestra and conducted on New Year's Eve 1939 as a greeting to the world at the New York World's Fair.
The concert is part of Konsertkarusellen, arranged in collaboration with Musik i Uppland. Date: Thursday 1 October, 7.00 pm - 8.10 pm. Prices: 250 kr standard, 150 kr for youth under 25 and pensioners, 150 kr wheelchair space. Companion free of charge - book via Ticksters customer service. Tickets also sold on site from approximately one hour before the concert. Free cloakroom available; audiences are asked to arrive in good time.
