Drink The Sea is an international supergroup featuring members from R.E.M., Screaming Trees and Queens Of The Stone Age. The music blends rock with world instruments including oud, sitar and gamelan.
Peter Buck (born December 6, 1956, in Berkeley, California) co-founded R.E.M. in Athens, Georgia in 1980 alongside Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and Bill Berry. His clean, arpeggiated guitar style became a defining sound of alternative rock across the band's 15 studio albums and three decades of activity. R.E.M. was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, its first year of eligibility. Since the band's 2011 breakup, Buck has stayed prolific through a string of side projects - most recently the supergroup Drink the Sea.
Drink the Sea released the single 'Oh Desire', co-written by Buck and Alain Johannes, ahead of the band's third album Drink the Sea III due October 2, 2026.
Drink the Sea announced a full US and European autumn 2026 tour, with European dates running from Cardiff on September 30 through Ravenna, Italy on October 23.
Buck released Arthur Buck 2, his second collaborative album with singer Joseph Arthur under the moniker Buck Arthur.
Drink the Sea released their debut double album in two parts - Drink the Sea I and Drink the Sea II - in autumn 2025.
R.E.M. members reunited publicly at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, their first shared stage appearance since the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
