Brazilian artist Sessa performs his distinctive sound at Nefertiti - a blend of samba, soul, jazz and rock featuring nylon-string guitar and Afro-Brazilian percussion.
Sessa is the stage name of São Paulo-born singer-guitarist Sergio Sayeg, who spent formative years in New York before returning to Brazil. His music draws on samba, soul and the Tropicália tradition, built around nylon-string guitar, Afro-Brazilian percussion and a female backing choir. The New Yorker described him as 'a songwriter cut from Veloso's mold and blessed with a flair for the intimate, the enigmatic, and the licentious.' His third album, Pequena Vertigem de Amor (Mexican Summer, 2025), pushes the sound toward late-1970s MPB sophistication and psychedelic soul.
Sessa released his third album, Pequena Vertigem de Amor, on November 7, 2025 via Mexican Summer.
Joyzine reviewed Pequena Vertigem de Amor positively, calling it 'as effortlessly cool as any Brazilian album from the golden age.'
Stereogum announced the album and premiered the lead single 'Vale a Pena' in October 2025.
Treble listed Sessa's 2022 album Estrela Acesa among the 50 Best Albums of 2022, noted at the time of the new album announcement.
Sessa is on a 2026 world tour in support of Pequena Vertigem de Amor, with dates across Europe and North America.
